Goal of the project is the development of a “smart” camera for process control and fault detection in automation. The camera will take the role of several sensors and thus reduce the setup time for machines substantially. Two prototypes will be developed that are targeted at low-speed (40ms) as well as high-speed (1ms) applications. When I first got it, the first movie I recorded was in .avi format. Now, it only records in .mov – I must have pushed a button when fooling around with it when I first got it.
Does anyone know how to switch this back to .avi format? I’ve tried the manual and everything.

Try and set your camera to a lower recording mode. Without knowing which Exilim you have, I am guessing here.
Perhaps when you record in the highest quality, the format is saved as .MOV which is a common digital format, like MPEG-2, which you need Apple Quick Time to play.
