Can anyone help me with Nikon D90 problem shooting?

My camera, Nikon D90 was working fine but all of the sudden when I went to take a picture, it was real dark when I looked through the lens. You can barely see your image that you are trying to take the picture of and the picture is coming out darker than usual. What do I do to fix this problem?

When you are setting up a shot the aperture should normally fully open, only closing down to the expected aperture when you take a photo. In this case it sounds as though the aperture has closed down. I’m not familiar with the D90 but is it possible the camera has a setting/button that doesn’t open up the aperture between taking shots?

There is often a button near the lens that would do this, if it were stuck in this could happen. Or it could even be a mechanical failure in the lens. Have you tried removing the lens and remounting it?

on the back side of the lens there’s a small pin that conmtrols the iris…
    check if stuck or somting

Look on page 25 and 26 of your users guide and reattach the lens and try again.

If you are still having problems, call Nikon 800.NIKON-UX.

The good news is your problem is rare. Some lenses require you lock the aperture ring at the lenses smallest aperture, usually f/16 or f/22

There is a slight possibility that the depth of field preview button is stuck. Look on page 82 of your users guide
